Logging AO-27 Telemetry

We need your help in logging TLM from AO27. While we condition the batteries we can use your help in receiving TLM from the satellite. If you have a 1200 AFSK TNC that you can connect to your satelite receiver, you have all the hardware you need.

To receive that data in a format we can use, follow these steps:

  • Download AO27TLM Version 1.1 (This is a newer version than on AMSAT.ORG)
  • Connect your TNC and verify that you can receive normal packet
  • Put your TNC into kiss mode (This is done with a terminal program. AO27TLM will not put the tnc into kiss mode. Many TNCs will use the commands kiss on, restart)
  • Make sure your clock on the computer is set correctly
  • Run AO27TLM with the /OT command line option (this is the only type of data we can use. If you log to kiss, or try to use some other program to log the data, we can't use it)
  • When the pass is over, exit AO27TLM
  • E-mail the resulting file (xxxxxxxx.LOG) to data@ao27.org (if you send it to any other address, our processing software will not receive it and it will be lost>
  • The Whole Orbit Data channel definitions are contained in a file called EYEWOD. This file is updated anytime the channels that are saved as wod on AO-27 are changed. Below is a link to the current channels so AO27TLM will extract the correct channels. This file is not needed to log data. It is only used if you would like to post process the data and look at the WOD your self.

Be sure you rename the file to EYEWOD
